A private, judgment-free space to explore what's holding you back — and build lasting tools for change.

Your space to breathe.

Individual therapy is a one-on-one partnership between you and your therapist. It's a protected hour each week that belongs entirely to you — no agenda except your own wellbeing.

In our sessions, we'll explore the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that are keeping you from the life you want. Together, we'll develop personalized strategies and skills you can use long after therapy ends.

I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness practices, and EMDR — selecting the tools that fit your unique situation.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Identify and change unhelpful thought patterns.

EMDR

Process and heal from trauma and distressing experiences.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Build present-moment awareness and reduce reactivity.

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Clarify your values and take meaningful action.

Motivational Interviewing

Explore ambivalence and build intrinsic motivation.

Somatic Approaches

Connect the body and mind for deeper healing.

What to Expect

Sessions are 50 minutes, weekly or bi-weekly depending on your needs. We'll begin by setting goals together, then regularly check in on progress. You'll always have a say in the direction of your treatment.

Many clients begin to feel relief within the first few sessions. Deeper, lasting change typically develops over 3–6 months, though every journey is different.

Frequently Asked Questions About Individual Therapy

What can I expect from my first therapy session?

Your first session is mostly about getting to know each other. Douglas will ask about what brought you in, your history, and what you hope to get from therapy. You do not need to have everything figured out — just show up and be honest. It typically takes 2–3 sessions to settle into the work.

How is individual therapy different from talking to a friend?

A therapist offers something different from friendship: professional training, clinical tools, an objective perspective, and a confidential space with no competing personal stakes. Douglas brings structured approaches — CBT, EMDR, ACT, mindfulness — that are proven to produce change, not just comfort.

How often should I come to therapy?

Most clients begin with weekly sessions to build momentum. Over time, many shift to bi-weekly as they make progress. The frequency is always based on your needs, goals, and pace — never a one-size-fits-all schedule.

I am not sure what I want to work on. Is that okay?

Completely. Many people come to therapy with a vague sense that something is not right, without a clear diagnosis or problem statement. That is a perfectly valid starting point. Part of the early work is helping you identify what you most want to change and what is getting in the way.

Do you offer telehealth individual therapy?

Yes. Douglas offers individual therapy via HIPAA-compliant video sessions for clients anywhere in Florida. Telehealth sessions are just as effective as in-person for most concerns and offer greater scheduling flexibility.

What issues do you treat in individual therapy?

Douglas works with anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, addiction and recovery, life transitions, grief and loss, relationship patterns, self-esteem, identity, and more. See the Services page for a full overview.
